Skyline has donated more than $1 million to several non-profit groups since 2002. This is just part of what we do to provide a safe and exciting means for seeing and experiencing the natural wonder of the Hawaiian islands.
From our first day in business back in 2002, conservation has been an important part of our mission.
SKYLINE ECOADVENTURES CERTIFICATION HIGHLIGHTS
Excellent commitment to sustainability and giving back to both the local community and natural environment. Has assisted in extensive native habitat restoration on Haleakala (replanting native trees such as koa and a`ali`i). Hosts annual Zip For the Trees fundraiser to plant native trees and raise funds for habitat restoration. Participates in 1% of the Planet program and has donated over $1,000,000 to charity since 2002.
Seeks to minimize environmental footprint as much as possible. Uses solar, composts food waste, minimal use of electricity (no AC, etc. at Haleakala site), and through CarbonFund is a Carbon Neutral business.
Hosts an annual Kama`aina month to provide local residents with reduced fees for ziplining, and residents provide nonperishable food item. 2016 event brought in over 13,000 pounds of food for Maui and Kauai food banks.
Company strongly supports its staff. Staff accrue paid volunteer days each year. This allows staff to participate in volunteer opportunities throughout Maui.
Excellent interpretation and guide training. Guides were very personable and attentive to guests needs, while also providing information about natural resources, Hawaiian culture, and sustainability. Senior staff go through an intensive cultural training. Company also pays for employees to attend cultural trainings and continuing education.
Each course is named after a different native bird (on Haleakala course), and includes interpretive signage. This is a great way to integrate different learning styles and connect to both Hawaiian culture and natural resources.
Great job on working towards developing a Conservation Committee, especially one that includes employees and employee feedback. Employees seem to genuinely enjoy working at Skyline, and it is an excellent idea to include them in developing solutions.
